Tiago Bilhim is a 43-years-old Portuguese doctor, with extensive expertise on embolization treatments, internationally renowned.
He got his Medicine Degree in 2004 and finished his internship in Radiology in 2011. He also obtained the European certification in Interventional Radiology (EBIR – European Board of Interventional Radiology) in 2011.
In 2011 he received his Ph.D. Degree in Radiology with the dissertation: “Prostatic artery embolization in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia – anatomo-clinical study”.
From early on he showed interest in teaching, being Monitor Professor and Invited Assistant of Anatomy, from 2000 to 2012, and, between 2012-2022 he was an Invited Assistant and Invited Assistant Professor of “Clinical Imagiology and Anatomy” and “Advanced Basis of Medical Imaging” at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas of NOVA Medical School.
Dr. Tiago is currently an Interventional Radiologist at SAMS Hospital, in Lisbon.

Along with his professional activity, there is also his important participation in the academic environment. He is Associate Editor for the Acta Radiológica Portuguesa (ARP) and Section Editor of Embolization for the Journal Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR).
2005 – Medical Internship – General Internship at Pulido Valente Hospital.
2005 – Conducted the Doctor-Patient Communication (Prova de Comunicação Médica) test in September of 2005, obtaining the classification “Suitable”.
2005 – Completed the Entrance Contest in the Complementary Internship, obtaining a score of 92% (22nd in the total of 714 applicants, at a national level).
2006 – Dr. Tiago chose Radiology in Santo António dos Capuchos Hospital and began his Complementary Internship.
2006 – Present – Interventional Radiologist at Saint Louis Hospital, Lisbon.
2011 – Completed the final assessment of the Radiology Medical Internship, obtaining the title of Radiology Assistant.
2011 – On September 30th Dr. Tiago obtained the European certification as Interventional Radiologist – EBIR – European Board of Interventional Radiology.
Since 2011 – Dr. Tiago was hired by the Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central, E.P.E, as Hospital Assistant specializing in Radiology, where he remains an Interventional Radiologist.
2019 – Present – Director of the Angiography Unit at Saint Louis Hospital, Lisbon.
2020 – Present – Interventional Radiologist at CUF Tejo, Lisbon.
September 12th, 2021 – Approved with a score of 19.125/20 in the contest to obtain the title of consultant of radiology medical career.
December 2021 – Obtained the European certification as Interventional Radiologist – EBIR – ES – European Board of Interventional Radiology – Endovascular Specialist.
1997 – Completed high school at Escola Secundária of Cidade Universitária with an average of 17.
1998 – First year in the Bachelor Program in Biochemistry at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa.
